Terms of Reference Leadership, Management & NPE Operation Training to NPE Leaders

Context:

Samyukta Safai Jagaran (SASAJA) is a non-governmental, non-profit making, non-political organization established by the groups of informal waste workers in 2014. SASAJA focuses on the recognition, rights, and advocacy for IWWs. SASAJA want to advocate to the government especially on recognizing their contribution to waste management, government trust funds for IWWs and access to social health insurance. SASAJA is providing monthly education to their group members focusing on savings and credit and solid waste management.

SASAJA in collaboration with Green Path Nepal (GPN) and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is implementing “Healthy Waste Workers for Sustainable Waste Management” project funded by Médecins du Monde (MdM). This project has three main expected outcomes: 1) Formalization of IWWs through non-profit enterprises and increasing their recognition in integrated solid waste management in urban cities, 2) Increase risk mitigation and promotion of decent safe work opportunities in current activities and through innovation, 3) Increase access to quality health services for IWWs and the community through promotion of Urban Health Promotion Centre.

Key objectives of the consultancy

The overall objective of this training module is to access the knowledge, skill and attitude improvement in IWWs nonprofit enterprises leaders on Leadership, Inclusive Group management & NPE Operation. An estimated 24 to 28 participants from partner organizations and beneficiaries will attend this training. We consider 3 modules as per training objective:

Module 1: Leadership: to improve the capabilities of NPE leaders, inspire the team and achieve outstanding business

Module 2: Management: to describe four major management capabilities: Knowledge, planning ability, people relationship competence and leadership capacity

Module 3: NPE Operation: to achieve excellence in an organization through the development of a system and improve business performance

The details of each module are as following:

Module 1: Leadership: to improve the capabilities (KAP) of NPE leaders, inspire the team and achieve outstanding business

The specific objectives of the training/consultancy are as follows:

  1. Self-confidence & self-motivation
  2. Clear communication
  3. Handling difficult situation and people
  4. Inspirational leadership
  5. Handling critics

The content of the Leadership Training

  • Why leadership is necessary
  • Types of Leadership
  • Qualities of a Successful leader
  • Capacity of a successful Leader
  • Barriers of Leadership

At the end of this leadership skills training course, the participants will be able to:

  • Clearly define the core requirements of Personal, Team and Task Leadership
  • Increase their self-awareness and develop a positive approach to leadership
  • Utilize clear methods of getting the best out of their team and those around them
  • Implement working practices that will assist them in becoming a great leader

Module 2: Group Management: to describe four major management capabilities: Knowledge, planning ability, people relationship competence and leadership capacity

The specific objectives of the training/consultancy are as follows:

  1. To ensure that all employees have the technical skills needed to perform the job efficiently and smoothly
  2. Increase motivation and engagement
  3. Reduce employee turnover
  4. Up-skill employees
  5. Risk management

The content of the Group Management Training

  • What is group management training
  • What is the difference between management training and leadership training
  • Roles of Executive members (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer)

At the end of the Group management training, the participants will learn following:

  • Distinguish between group and team

  • Learn about the organogram and structure of team/group

Module 3: NPE Operation: to achieve excellence in an organization through the development of a system and improve business performance

The specific objectives of the training/consultancy are as follows:

  1. Identify the key goals and requirements of operations management
  2. Improve the individual level of awareness
  3. Describe the principles of operations management including: inventory management, operations planning, manufacturing management, distribution and logistics and managing operations
  4. Discuss the important considerations when planning operations management including competing with operations, designing and improving processes, designing , and operating value chains

The content of the NPE Operation Training

  • What is a nonprofit operating model
  • Tips for successful operating model design
  • Introduction to Operation Management
  • Compliances of operating NPE
  • Coordination points of NPE

At the end of this NPE Operation training course, the participants will be able to:

  • The participants will be successful in sustainable business practices often require entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Being an entrepreneur participants able to take on significant responsibility and comes with significant challenges and potential rewards
  • The training will be provide an overview of entrepreneurship and innovation as it relates to sustainable business

Proposed Methodology

The consultant will develop a detail training content in consultation with SASAJA and its partners considering needs of partner organizations. The targeted trainee-participants are informal waste workers and having very low level of education and low level of concept of concerned topics. A standard training content for non-government, non-profit organization is expected from the consultant. The training delivery method should be participatory, reflective and empowering and based on actual case scenario and question- answers. We expects a team of two trainers for effective and efficient training delivery.

Note: The training team will prepare pre and posttest for each module separately and validate with the project team before training assignment.

Profile of firm/consultant

The trainers to be involved in this assignment should have at least Master’s degree in related field and more than ten (10) years of experience in delivering trainings to NGOs. The firm should have ability to provide competent human resources for this task.
