About FESMI

The Fire and Emergency Services Management Institute (FESMI) (P) Ltd. was established in 2019 to assist Nepal and the region to enhance health, disaster, fire and emergency preparedness and response capabilities. FESMI does this by offering customized internationally recognized training tailored to meet demographic requirements of emergency responders, health workers, volunteers, municipal personnel and to the general community.

We provide training and consultancy services to the organizations and government entities to help instill emergency management practices and safety measures in the community through application of knowledge and relevant solutions. Our expertise includes:

Program Overview

It is an initiative to bring fire safety knowledge, public-awareness and data-driven insights generated by the fire risk assessment process that can help to identify, prioritize, and minimize the fire hazards in the community. Program will be implemented in seven urban municipalities of Nepal: Kathmandu, Tarkeshwor, Tokha, Bhimeshwor, Neelkantha, Tulsipur and Phungling. The main purpose of the project is to build municipal capacity on fire safety and risk assessment through the Train-of- Trainer (TOT) program. The trained personnel will further implement fire safety inspection/risk assessments, mitigation, and community awareness programs, which will help to reduce the fire hazard in the targeted municipalities.

What is FESMI-Traineeship Programme ?

The FESMI- Traineeship Program aims to build-capacity by providing real-time, guided, hands-on training and experience on fire safety and risk assessment. A five-days comprehensive training program will be provided to those selected to participate in the program. The training will provide the trainees an understanding of the objectives and activities of the community fire safety program.


Program Duration: Three months  


The aims of FESMI-Traineeship Programme are :

  • To provide trainees practical experience and knowledge of the fire safety program.
  • To provide trainees the opportunity to work with local municipal governments of Nepal, in a multicultural, multi-linguistic and multi-ethnic environment, contributing to the development of mutual understanding, trust and tolerance.
  • To enable trainees to put into practice knowledge acquired during the training by implementing fire safety inspections and public awareness programs.
  • To introduce these trainees to the professional world and the constraints, duties and opportunities therein.
  • To allow trainees to contribute to fire safety and disaster resilience in Nepal.

Who can apply?

FESMI-Traineeship program is offered to graduates who have completed a diploma or bachelor’s degree in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), Fire Safety, Emergency Management, Crisis Management, Firefighter or its equivalent by the closing date for applications.

Eligibilities:

  • Trainee must be local or prefer to work in the listed municipalities
  • Have a passion to work in the Disaster Risk Reduction or emergency services sectors
  • Have a strong commitment to learn
  • Have excellent knowledge of English and Nepali languages, verbal and written
  • Computer proficiency including data collection, mobile apps and data analysis tools and software
  • Facilitation, interpersonal, coordination and communication skills
  • Knowledge in planning and managing surveys, developing, and refining data collection tools and with data quality assessments and oversight
  • Commitment to complete the assignment during the traineeship period

Trainee Responsibilities:

After successful completion of five-days comprehensive training, Trainees will be assigned to conduct the following activities for listed municipalities.

  • Conduct fire safety training program to assigned municipality
  • Conduct public-awareness and education program
  • Conduct building inspection and risk assessments for critical infrastructure (hospitals, schools, public assembly, government offices buildings, health shelters, etc.)
  • Collect inspection/assessment data and write reports and case studies from assigned working municipalities.
